Pre-check 2: do you use cookies - and which CMP?
Last updated: July 6, 2026
This check tells you two things: whether your website uses cookies, and if so, which Consent Management Platform (CMP) manages them. The answer determines whether you need to set up Standard mode for the N.Rich tag - and which CMP guide to follow when you do.
What is a CMP?
A Consent Management Platform is the tool that handles cookie consent on your website - it's what shows visitors the "Accept cookies" banner when they first arrive. Common examples are CookieBot, CookieYes, iubenda, and HubSpot's built-in CMP.
If your website asks visitors for cookie consent, you have a CMP. You'll need to connect it to Google Tag Manager so it can tell the N.Rich tag when to activate Standard mode.
Step 1: Check for a cookie banner
Visit your website in a fresh browser window (or in private/incognito mode, so existing consent isn't cached). Look for a banner or pop-up asking you to accept or manage cookies - it typically appears near the bottom or top of the page on the first visit.
Banner appears → your site uses cookies and has a CMP. Continue to Step 2 to identify which one.
No banner appears → your site likely doesn't use cookies, or the CMP isn't configured to show the banner. Run a quick check with CookieServe - enter your URL and it will scan for any cookies being set. If it finds none, you can skip Standard mode entirely.
No cookies? Good news - you can install the Cookieless tag without any CMP configuration. Head straight to How do I set up Google Tag Manager for the N.Rich tag?
Step 2: Identify your CMP
If your site does use cookies, you need to know which CMP you're using before you can complete the installation.
Check the banner branding - most CMPs display their name or logo on the consent banner itself. If you can see it, you're done.
Check the banner's privacy policy link - clicking through to the privacy policy often reveals the CMP name in the text.
Use BuiltWith - if the banner doesn't make it obvious, go to builtwith.com, enter your website URL, and on the results page press Ctrl+F (Windows) or Cmd+F (Mac) and search for "consent". It should surface the CMP name.
What to do with the result
Once you know your CMP, follow the matching guide when you reach the Standard mode setup step:
